Optimiser Shows No Progress

Bug description:
Hugin 0.7.0, Ubuntu 8.10
Two image files (5mp camera). When I try and optimise the pop-up appears, the
CPU usage goes to around 50% (generally slightly over), and the progress bar
never changes. I've left it in this state for bout 30 minutes before cancelling
(I have to kill hugin too). This was working on my system before, and I'm
pretty sure previous stitches never took so long.
I last created a panorama with Hugin in, I think, Dec 2008, or a month or two
later. I'm not sure what changes I've made to the system since then that may
have broken stuff, but when I first tried to use Hugin, I was getting an enfuse
error which I saw was down to enblend 3.2 being required and Ubuntu seemingly
only giving me 3.0. So I manually compiled 3.2 and that error went away
(Synaptic still says I have 3.0 installed, but I'm assuming that will be
unrelated?).
Can't give any other info. as I'm not sure where to look. Let me know what you
need to debug.
