Yeah. it cannot be the "default action" for that reason. But a 'delete controlpoints' mode is possible as I suggested.

Switch to "delete controlpoints" mode, and click on a link. Whoooosh and the controlpoints between those pictures are gone. (I've suggested in the past that controlpoints should carry a weight with them.
