I'm not a developer but I think that this feature isn't useful because
it will take a lot of time to make the preview like the output
file...you are talking about a "preview" and, as his name says, is not
the final output that instead request a lot of computing.

You could change the resolution of the output image in the stitcher
tab. Halving the dimension in pixel of one side of the output panorama
will result in less than half the time of the optimal size.
