Since the photos in the hugin cache are not used for final 
rendering, one possibility for squeezing more out of this cache 
would be to change it to store the images with JPEG compression.

It would slow down access some, but there would be no problem 
getting all the photos to make a 2 gigapixel panorama into 2GB of 
memory even at 'high quality'.
