Hi everyone-

Hopefully, you recall that I'm working on developing and implementing a
geometric model for adding a Mosaic mode to Hugin as I described in the
proposal below:
http://wiki.panotools.org/User:Dg
The essence of the project is to stitch images of a flat surface
photographed from different locations. This is a major change from the
existing model in Panotools which assumes the camera is always in the same
location.

I talked with Pablo and Jim at the LGM conference a couple weeks back and we
developed some initial thoughts on how to approach this problem.
Unfortunately, I got tied up with another project and haven't been able to
think about it in more detail and solicit your impressions until now.

Please see the following section I added to my proposal describing the
approach we plan to take:
http://wiki.panotools.org/User:Dg#Week_1:_Initial_Approach

In addition, in the project branch,
http://panotools.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/panotools/branches/libpano_gsoc2009_mosaic/
Pablo identified the data structures I'll modify to implement these changes.

However, before I get too far, I wanted to make sure I have a complete
understanding of the Panotools geometric model and a complete understanding
of the Panotools code. If you know of any comprehensive documentation,
please let me know. In the meanwhile, I've been trying to learn as much as
possible on my own.

I found this helpful description of Panotools' geometric model by Tom
Sharpless on the list from 2007:
http://groups.google.com/group/hugin-ptx/browse_thread/thread/c01fb82c91c7e502/d01bde29b3bdc333?lnk=gst#d01bde29b3bdc333

Does anyone know if anything has changed since that description was
written?

A couple other questions: is there a z-axis in panotools? If so, does it
point in the direction I indicated in my diagram or is it away from the
planar object? (For a right-handed coordinate system the z-axis should
point away from the plane.) Has anyone attempted to put together a manual or
detailed schematic of panotools?

Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

-Dev
