with snapshots numbered completely different, problems arise, that's
why you're having this discussion. How about something similar to the
Linux kernel. Odd numbered versions are development, even numbered are
releases.

2009.06.0  <- Prerelease. (release candidate). 
2009.06.1  <- release. 
2009.06.2  <- bugfix release

2009.07.4567  <- svn number development after 2009.06...
2009.07.4568  

2009.08.0 <- Prerelease... 


If within less than two months you want to have two real releases,
you'll have to "run ahead" maybe a bit with the version numbers. No
biggie. Time will catch up eventually.
