good. I hope we can get it out of the way and focus on a proper
multi-window solution, then.

the problem with the current multi-window is that it docks plenty of
fuctionality into tabs. the tabs must have the same size. Sometimes I
want a big surface - e.g. when clicking control points in the CP tab.
All other tabs could be much smaller palettes, freeing valuable screen
space.

I would suggest freeing the tabs and calling them for what they are:
palettes.

I'd start with all palettes but the assistant invisible.

I'd add a context menu with the list of palettes. whenever I right-click
with the mouse (except inside images in the CP editor) the list of
palettes appear and I can make one of the palettes visible at that
specific place.

Another way to call up the palettes would be clicking inside the fast
preview - e.g. selecting two images will bring up the CP editor between
them; selecting a single image and right-clicking it will open the
palette selected in the context menu with that specific image pre-selected.

Default, for the simple usage, will be the Assistant and the Fast Preview.

The main application window will be dual mode: either "Assistant" or
"Expert".

Need to think a bit more how to fit in the current "Stitcher" tab and
the new "Framing" tab into the main application window.

just a quick memory dump - not a completely thought through solution.
