I was thinking about the ratio of "new pixels" to "total pixels in
this new image".

When I blend a multirow image, new images usually have about 60% of
their pixels being "new" to enblend. In the second row they will have
also a 40% overlap with the previous row, so only about 36% will be
"new pixels".

Ah. wait! I think you're saying the same as I'm trying tot say. I
misread your statement apparently. On second thought, you're dividing
by a slightly smaller number than I am.

Say we have a 10Mpixel image which overlaps the normal 40%,

I'd say we divide the 60%=6mpixels new pixels by the 10M total pixels,
giving the number "60%", i think you're dividing by the overlap region
of 4mpixels, so you'd get 1.5 (or 150%).

with almostoverlapping images, say 10% stick out, I'd get... 1M
divided by 10M total = 10%. You'd get 1M/9M = 11% (or 0.11).

Did you intend to do it this way? I prefer the "more linear" scale of
0-100%,

Suppose I'm shooting with about 51% overlap. And I miss a shot, and go
back to shoot it again later.

Normally we'd see overlap of about 50%, and have a plenty wide area to
do good blending. However In the case of the shot taken later in the
sequence, hugin will also try to blend it later in the sequence. So
now you'll see an absurdly low overlap percentage on the missed shot,
(wich results in sharp visible artifacts!) and a rediculously high
overlap region on the later shot....

        Roger.

Q: It doesn't work. A: Look buddy, doesn't work is an ambiguous statement.
Does it sit on the couch all day? Is it unemployed? Please be specific!
