OK, attached are hugin templates for building a philosphere.

Usage: Start a new hugin project, and load 8 copies of your equirectangular image (any size is fine).  Select "File > Apply Template" and choose philosphere-t1.pto.  Switch to the "Stitcher" tab, hit "Stitch now!" and enter "t1" as the output prefix.  (Don't change the output width/height before stitching, or you won't be able to arrange the pieces with Philo's .psd templates.)  Load another copy of the equirectangular image (for a total of 9), apply philosphere-s1.pto, and output with prefix "s1".  Repeat for philosphere-s2.pto.

Now you have the 26 faces of your philosphere.  Arrange them with Philo's Photoshop templates (available at http://www.philohome.com/rhombicuboctahedron/rhombicuboctahedron.htm; the templates also work fine in the gimp), print, fold, cut out and tape.  The whole process from start to finished product takes about 20-30 minutes.
