I'm delighted that Hugin finally has a competent control point finder, in the latest cpfind. Better than competent -- it gives much better distributed CPs on my fisheye images than anything else I've tried, including PTGui. And the linear and multirow options really seem to work as advertised.
Congratulations to all who contributed to this! Of course I have a few complaints and suggestions... #1 complaint: Why isn't cpfind bundled with Hugin and preconfigured as the default CP finder?? As usual I had to go hunting to find the thing. That is no way to market a major feature. [Please, please, PLEASE, no moaning about patents! If you really think any corporation would sue Hugin or its developers, then you don't understand patent law (hint: it's about the money).] #2 complaint: The linear and multirow modes should do a rough check for 360 degree wraparound, and find CPs between the wrapped images when it seems likely. I know you can add those by selecting the files in Hugin's Images tab and asking for a new CP find, but that isn't at all newbie-friendly. Suggestion: using float rather than double data type for all the internal images and CP coordinates would make it possible to handle larger images and increase the performance on smaller ones, especially on multi-CPU machines. This is a simple change to implement, I did it in both autopano and panomatic in one day with no side effects. (If already done, sorry; I have not looked at the code).
