I've been using Hugin on linux for some year. Just got a new camera and found a problem not experienced before. Took two pictures (of my bedroom) and fired up Hugin (version 2010.0.0.5045). Auto did a fine job - at least insofar as the Fast Preview was concerned, but looking at the ordinary Preview which was the same as the final stitched product, almost completely black.
The fast preview and the old preview should look similar if you have 'Photometrics' enabled in the fast preview window.
To get the ordinary Preview window to show anything, have to reduce the EV right down, but at this point the light from the window is massively over-exposed (it is not in the original).
Probably the camera response parameters are messed-up, this tends to happen if the geometrical alignment wasn't good. You can try the Reset... button in the Camera and Lens tab to clear this up.
