For debian, hugin 2011.2.0 (including hsi) is in squeeze-backports, in wheezy (testing) and in sid (unstable). Therefore, all debian derived distros will pick it up "real soon now". Ubuntu only carries 2011.0 in oneiric, the latest release, However, you can find 2011.2.0 in the "latest hugin builds" ppa from the Hugin PPA Packagers at https://launchpad.net/~hugin/+archive/hugin-builds for lucid, maverick, natty and oneiric, including the swig2.x dependency required for hsi.

However, the new python scripting ability of hugin may go unnoticed by most users. The new "Actions" menu entry is nothing that stands out, even less so under recent ubuntu versions using unity where getting the menu is not exactly straight forward.

On the other side, a lot of feature requirements from users may be satisfied by recommending the usage of phyton scripts in the future. Any additional feature implemented based on python scripting will give another motivation nudge to other distros and OSes that currently lag behind.
