Should the gigapixel support project be combined with the "processing
of very large images" project?
Reading through the descriptions, it would seem that gigiapixel won't
be feasible until the latter project is implemented.
Similarly the "PSD to PSB" project would not be beneficial until it is
possible to produce very large images.
PSB support has been added to a branch of libpano about a year ago. I bumped the
old message to get the merge done. This still does not add it to Hugin and Enblend.
It might be worth while to expand the PSD/PSB file format support to also
support some of the other blending modes that Photoshop offers. This would allow
inserting a logo that has more than just an Alpha channel. It would allow to
move around the logo in the interactive view so it is someplace other than the
exact nadir (to align up with some other feature).
The photoshop blending modes allow to add things like shadow and embossing to
make the logo look like it belongs in the photo.
The GIMP probably already has all the different modes implemented. Code and
algorithms can be borrowed from there.
Two functionality are required.
1 That PSD/PSB files added to a project have the blending layer information
maintained and understood.
2 That flattening/blending a panorama that contains layers that have blending
layer information be blended properly.
Adding a logo is now the main reason why I open the result panorama in
Photoshop. This will make sure more panoramas get watermarked by the photographers.

Hi Terry,
Do we have a list of proposed projects?
there is a list:http://wiki.panotools.org/GSOC_2011_Ideas
and herehttps://blueprints.launchpad.net/hugin
But the experience of the last years have shown, that ideas which were
proposed by the students itself, had a higher chance of being
successful completed than the projects selected from a "list". There
are exceptions from this statement, but in general it applies.
