Hugin-2013.0.0 works on my 10.6.8 without problems.
Can you (instead of loading old prefs) delete the prefs? To do that,
open Preferences, and I think you need to press the "Load Defaults"
button in every tab.
Does that work?
Can you post that old .pto file that started all the trouble?
Did you try the latest pre-release of 2014.0.0
