Finally found the old thread, referring to the 2013 version: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/hugin-ptx/QZIRpWBotas --no-ciecam does not help, though. The problem persists in the ubuntu ppa:hugin/next (Raring, 64bit) I am using.
