One of the things I use Hugin for is creating seamless tileable
textures - for mapping onto 3d models and other things. Hugin is
actually very good at this, I don't know of a better way of taking a
photo of a repeating pattern and turning it into a usable texture.
I haven't managed to write a tutorial, but have left some notes
here, maybe someone will find this useful: https://flic.kr/p/sjQ8bu
Thanks for your notes on how to use hugin for this.
I have had a bit of play around with this, and have been able to make
both 1D and 2D tileable textures using your example image and the
notes, but did have a some problems getting a low optimisation error.
I've put the original photo and project files here, this might make
a bit more sense, I also included another example with a more
difficult photo: http://bugbear.postle.net/~bruno/2015-04-02-Alhambra.zip
