What I look for is a button I can press in the UI which when pressed tries to create control points between the two displayed images. In the control points tab there is already a button "create cp", which will run cpfind only on these two images. Furthermore you can select two or more images in the photo tab and then start cpfind from the photo tab. It will then only work on the selected images.
