Hi Sigbjorn,

I expect most of the IOError stuff in Hugs is wrong
(in fact, we've had bug reports to that effect before).

Hopefully, this will all go away when the great Hugs-GHC merger takes place!
That is assuming the Glasgow (or Cambridge) folks can figure out
what IOError's each operation is supposed to raise.  I certainly 
never managed to figure it out.
