Not at all!  Careful use of unsafePerformIO is to be encouraged!

With enough use, we might discover _safe_ uses which we could
 package up in standard libraries for people to use.  Examples
 include getFileContents, lazy name supplies and your own 
 lazy(ish) memo functions.
