Hi,

Here in Sweden we like to have identifiers like:

  resebyr\aa
  g\"oteborg

(imagine having the real Swedish letters here).

In Hugs 1.4, you can indeed have identifiers like that in your program.
But you can't type them in in the Hugs interpreter! Why is that?

There are many other languages (German, Dutch, French) that have these
kind of characters in it. It is even just ASCII. Why is this restriction
made?

Why is there a special treatment of these characters at all?

  ? "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz\228"
  "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz\228"

  ? putStr "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz\228"
  abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz\"a

???

Thanks,
Koen.
