...........look at this cut copy and paste description of someone's
experience with The Hum. The writer lives in Liverpool UK. It's a near
classic description of the sensations and irritation that this Hum can
cause. Taken from the more liberal and freer
thinking............http://www.mysteryhum.com/...........

**********************Hi, Paul here. I have just moved into a house in
Wallasey, near Liverpool, England and I have the hum! I first noticed
it on the first morning I woke up in the house and at first mistook it
for a neighbour sat outside in a vehicle with the engine running.
After a while I got up and went outside and the hum dissapeared. So I
then assumed it must be coming from my neighbours house(I live in a
semi-detached house and sleep in a room with an adjoining wall) but
having investigated this source I've had to rule it out. So then
someone mentioned it was something to do with the water heater in my
house vibrating the pipes in the walls due to an air block, so I
turned the heater off and left it off for the rest of the day but
still the hum persisted. I'm utterly vexed. My landlady and her fella
came around last night to hear the hum as I had spoken to them about
it. The three of us spent a couple of hours trying to locate the
source but ended up all as baffled as each other! The nature of the
hum is not constant, it starts and stops at what I would guess to be
intervals of a minute(on) and then 20-30 seconds(off). Then it will
randomly dissapear for hours at a time before starting up again. It's
louder downstairs(I sleep in a large downstairs room) than upstairs
making me believe that it is coming from underground. It is
particularly loud in the four corners of the room and much quieter in
the center. I came across this site after googling "low humming noise"
and was astounded to see how many results I got relating to similair
problems in this country and around the world! I'm not alone, hahaha!
I can laugh but actually it's beginning to drive me round the
bend.***********************
