The old fashioned concept of public duty seems long forgotten.
There's a few 'odd bods' pop up from time to time with a social
conscience- but they seem almost swept aside by the common culture of
'grab what you can'.
There's still a lot of people in public service that do a fair job &
would probably like to speak up- but they are tied down with career
options, pension rights and PC twaddle.
As the only growth sector in most major economies [even if only
apparent]- it will take a bigger crash than recent to change mindsets.
The old saying 'look after your own' is selfish- but understandable
under the circumstances.
The internet fills a gap in this social fabric, for all its
imperfections.
Whether it stays' free and open' is a concern, for this very reason.
