Thanks for the info guys - having seen so much info on the internet it was nice to know I wasn't a lone crank! I was using my iphone with headphones to try to distract myself but to be honest found that became more irritating to help me sleep! i read some information which helped me re-frame the meaning of the hum. Basically that by attending to the hum it becomes more obvious/ irritating and source of anxiety. What I have done to try to filter out the hum is to say to myself "it's not important, it's not a source of danger" this has seemed to have had the effect of me now not noticing the hum for the past 3 days! It may still be there, but by refocusing and upping the perceptual filter that we all have it seems to be blocked out. I do hope that this is the reason that I haven't heard it for 3 days.... Good luck
