During the past eleven years I have received several hundred emails and letters
from Hum sufferers giving details of their experiences and from these
observations a definite pattern can be seen.

Although the Hum level can vary at any time it has been observed to increase
steadily during the evening reaching a maximum at about 2 am with a sharp fall
in level at the following sunrise.

It has also been reported that the Hum level rises sharply with the approach of
a high pressure weather system, generally the Hum level is high at times of
high pressure weather and low at the centre of a depression.

These observation cannot be regarded as absolute but the do indicate a
connection between the Hum and the atmosphere which is likely to be be very
complicated and involve as yet unknown factors
