A French journal in its next edition will be focussing on initiatives throughout the world that work in promoting social and cultural diversity in their own country, giving voices and recognition to disadvantaged communities or building up bridges between people. These initiatives may deal with politics, education, media, employment, culture, urban policies, etc. Regarding India, it wants to focus on diversity matters that are considered “specific” of Indian society or particularly important, like gaps caused by the caste system, gender issues, homosexuality, slum youths, religious discriminations, and whatever else may be relevant. It wishes to see for instance if there is any positive action that helps young people from low castes to enter universities? Any politics that promotes diversity representation in media (TV channels, newspapers)? Any arts program aimed to give cultural empowerment to socially disadvantaged kids and create bridges between lower and upper classes? The journal believes it might be interesting to focus on portraits of people, kinds of “colourful (and efficient) activists”, whose testimonials would shake stereotypes regarding the community they come from, and present solid proposals to move forward. Any suggestions in this regard are welcome. -- Uddipana Goswami www.jajabori-mon.blogspot.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "humanrights movement" group.
