Dear friends,
After a meeting with Himanshuji and PUCL members, there was a decision to
take up the following programmes in Dantewada:
1. Padayatra to gather information regarding displacement, livelihood rights
and human rights situations in the affected villages of Dantewada and
Beejapur districts will commence on 14th December from rehabilitated village
Nendra and culminate on 26th December at Dantewada.
Those friends attending the Convention of Women against Sexual Violence
and State Repression at Raipur on 12th-13th December can join in a
solidarity meeting on the 14th at Nendra, and those who wish to join the
padayatra can also do so.
2. Satyagraha in the form of dharna and relay hunger fast at Dantewada to
demand the implementation of Supreme Courts order to rehabilitate 3.5 lakh
adivasis of 644 villages forcibly displaced by Salwa Judum will begin on
26th December and continue till 5th January.
3. On 6th-7th January, it is proposed to hold a jansunvai (public hearing)
where the affected adivasi people may freely speak. Retired judges, adivasi
intellectuals of prominence, grass roots activists from all over the country
etc. will be present. It is possible that the Home Minister might also be
present in this jansunvai.
Taking into account the serious and justified concerns expressed by PUDR and
various groups, efforts have to be made to ensure that in the name of
security, such a jansunvai doesnot become a sponsored or sarkari farce
where people are prevented from attending or speaking.
