I regret to inform you that I cannot agree to be a member of your committee .
After careful reflection I am of the opinion that we may jeopardise the
existing information known to the late Shaheed Shahid Azmi 's associates and
family members among others which actually should be shared only with the Court
, which should be shared by them only with the Supreme Court.
One cannot exclude the possibility of information being divulged to this
Committee, being handed over by one or two individuals to the very people
involved in this covert conspiracy , in paricular if names like mine figure
will result in a false sense of confidence in people that the Committee will
be able to resolve the serious issue of his assassination whereas what is the
need is a specially appointed investigation by the Supreme Court on the lines
of the SIT in Gujarat comprising of police officials from outside the State .
My experience with the Srikrishna Commission gave me an insight into funded
human rights bodies , journalists and others being actually hired by covert
agencies masquerading as genuine, even interviewing us with a view to extract
information of a sensitive nature not to genuinely help people . Who knows that
he may have divulged the information that he was receiving on some angle of the
trial to some such journalist or funded body from a genuine confidence that
the system works , which may have hastened his end, as we have a few people
who work for both sides , the covert agencies and the funded organizations and
unwittingly someone may supply us information of a senstive nature which may be
passed on the very covert agencies who have organized this assassination .It is
better that the family hands over this information to the Court .
As you are aware his assassination has already exposed the sensitive trials he
was conducting of those framed up for terrorism .Certain other developments
have also taken place which have also cast a serious doubt on the ongoing
prosecutions .It was done to show that these trials were genuine actually it
has had the opposite effect .
Our country fortunately does not comprise of a monolithic society and
everywhere even in the institutions of the state there are people and officials
who do not agree with what is happening and disclose at an appropriate time the
truth as what happened earlier before the Srikrishna Commission where the
Special Branch placed on record that there were no Muslim organizations which
could be considered a threat etc. etc .
I have already informed you that the press briefing itself was a give away that
" patriotic sections of the underworld " were held responsible for the killing
. Please communicate my views to Jyoti Punwani among others and convey my
sincere regrets to those sincere and honest members of your committee as I
have taken this decision after a few days of very careful thought and
consideration .
Thanking you for the confidence reposed in me . Truth always
prevails but patience is required .
