Two boys killed in a day in Srinagar

Srinagar: A relative of Mohammad Rafiq Bangroo, the Old City youth who
succumbed to his injuries yesterday after being beaten by Central Reserve
Police Force (CRPF) troopers last Saturday, was shot dead Sunday morning
while eight others were injured when paramilitary CRPF troops reportedly
opened fire on the funeral procession of Bangroo near Noorbagh area here.

14-year- old, Javid Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla of Noorbagh
sustained bullet wounds in the neck and was immediately rushed to a hospital
where doctors declared him dead. Malla was Bagroo's a second cousin.
"Javed was brought dead to the hospital and had succumbed to a bullet wound
in his throat," said a doctor at the SMHS hospital here.
However, CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi told The Kashmir Dispatch that
the troopers opened fire in “self defense” after the protesters tried to
torch a CRPF bunker in the area.
Malla's death triggered fresh protests in several areas of Srinagar city.
According to eyewitnesses, the police and CRPF troopers fired on the funeral
procession of Javid Ahmad Malla near Eidgah, injuring many.
Doctors at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) told The
Kashmir Dispatch that five people injured in clashes in the Old City had
sought treatment there.
Protests had erupted in the area after 25-year-old Mohammad Rafiq Bangroo
died last night. Bangroo was severely beaten by CRPF troops on June 12 and
succumbed to injuries late Saturday after battling for life for a week at
the SKIMS.
Meanwhile, police in a statement issued here today said a mob had tried to
set ablaze a bunker of 161 Bn CRPF after the funeral prayers of Bangroo at
Dana Mazar Safa Kadal and when “lathi charge and tear smoke had no effect,
the CRPF fired in self defense resulting in injuries to five persons..”
“The injured were shifted to the SMHS Hospital Srinagar where one of the
injured namely Javaid Ahmad Malla later passed away,” the police said.

"After a war, the silencing of arms is not enough. Peace means respecting
all rights. You can’t respect one of them and violate the others. When a
society doesn’t respect the rights of its citizens, it undermines peace and
leads it back to war.”
