Kartam Joga, petitioner in Salwa Judum matter, produced in court Dear friends
Kartam Joga, the lead petitioner in WP (Cr.) 119 of 2007 (Salwa Judum matter), was produced in court today (October 20, 2010). This was his first hearing after his arrest on 14 April 2010, from Konta. He is suffering from fever and ear ache. He is being implicated in a variety of false cases. So far only the chargseheet on his alleged involvement in the Tadmetla ambush in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed has been produced; but others are expected to follow shortly, so that he is embroiled in disproving one flimsy evidence after the other. Kartam Joga was arrested from Konta where he had gone for a meeting as the elected vice-president of the Janpad Panchayat. The police had claimed he was absconding, which was another patent untruth. Hearings in the Salwa Judum matter were held on 30.7.2010, 11.8.10, 12.8.10 and 31.8.2010. The Supreme Court hauled up the state government for a vague and wholly unsatisfactory reply and on 31.8.2010 gave them another six weeks to file a better response (before October 21); which they have not done to date, in violation of Court orders. The Chhattisgarh government is unable to respond satisfactorily in court, since its violations of law and indifference to its own citizens are so obvious. It is not surprising then, that the Chhattisgarh government should have chosen to target Kartam Joga at precisely this time. More details regarding the charges will follow.
