Janakeeya Manushyavakasa Prasthanam strongly deplores the Karnataka police's action of registering cases against Tehelka reporter K.K.Shahina, who exposed the evil designs of the state to keep Abdul Nasar Madani in jail on false charges. The action of the police is infringing upon the freedom of expression and freedom of press. This is quite unbecoming of a democratic state.
It is unfortunate that of late the moves from the part of the state to book writers and journalists for expressing their views are making India into a police state. We believe that its not by silencing the voices of dissent, a democracy develops, rather its by protecting their right to express, it can develop fully into a democracy. On this occasion we call upon all the people who are committed to freedom of expression to protest against the action of registering cases against K.K.Shahina and force the state to drop charges against her.
