Dear John,
Apologies for bothering you . The political
establishments around the country are possibly
deaf, listening to their own debates in parliament,
out of touch with the urgency of the situation in
the rest of the country . The Dalit representatives
in Delhi possibly do not know what is going on
around the country .
In Maharashtra ,ever since the Khairlanji killings of
a Dalit family by upper caste elements and the mass
agitation which followed , Dalit protestor are being called
" Naxalites"with a view to prevent their legitimate
political activity .Recently a Dalit journalist Sudhir Dhawale,
whose wife is a nurse , was arrested and charged with
interalia "waging war against the State" merely because
of posters and pamphlets focussing on the condition of
the Dalits and books by Dr. Karl Marx, Lenin, Mao
in his personal libriary ,being used as evidence .
The State of Maharashtra has a long social history of
Dalit oppression which remain in the feudal and backward
tracts of Marathwada and Vidharbha among others and
in rural areas all over the State where the landless workers
among othersare Dalit. I had to defend the Dalit leaders in
the past when they faced 40-50 cases which were filed against
the leaders of the Dalit panther movement , which
coincided with an agitation in the region of Marathwada for
Dalit rights and the renaming of the University as Dr.
Ambedkar University, when the wells of the Dalits were
poisoned by the upper castes in the villages in Marathwada.
I do not know what the so called Dalit leaders
are doing in Delhi and elsewhere , but the situation
in Maharashtra is extremely regressive for Minorities
and Dalits and casteist elements have a stranglehold
over the police machinery , any focus on caste atrocities
and social and economic conditions of the Dalits is attempted
to be labeled as Maoist with a view to oppress democratic
dissent .
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Maharashtra
is as bad as any BJP ruled State from the point of view
of the suppression of Dalit and Tribal dissent and the atrocities
and false arrests against minorities .
There is not even a glimmer of the progressive dialogue
once visible in Mumbai and Maharashtra of the legacy of
Jotirao Phule , Lokmanya Tilak , Dr. Ambedkar or even of
of a Yeshwantrao Chavan; it is nothing but REACTION OF THE
WORST KIND WITH THE INSTITUTIONS OF THE STATE
REPRESENTING UPPER CASTE/UPPER CLASS REACTION,
with the ruling party and opposition absolutely compromised by
merging of political identity with the Corporate Sector , Financiers,
Speculators , Builders among others , with the administration criminilised
at manylevels , due to the compulsion of raising political finances from
these sources .
The suicides of farmers which is the highest in the country in
Maharashtra is only a reflection of the rot. The policies of
the entire State of Maharashtra have been pawned to the Indian
and Foreign Corporate Sector .Notwithstanding the lessons
of the collapseof the US economy , a contribution of its best and
brightest corporations.
One example is Enron ,which ruined the people of the United
States equally even as it devastated the finances of the State
of Maharashtra .
Rebecca Mark , the executive of Enron by the way did not know
Marathi , yet she was perfectly acceptable to all major political
parties in Maharashtra and absolutely hyponotised them .
None of the leaders who accepted the Enron Project
and bankrupted the State have been held liable for
Sedition .
My own view is that since we have Mahatma Gandhi and
Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar who taught us to oppose injustice
and resort to mass movements even without the books
of Marx, Lenin and Mao ,it will be difficult for those presently
repressing people to fool all the people , all the time.
May be next time the ATS Maharashtra/Mumbai should
look out for those with books on Mahatma Gandhi and
Dr. Ambedkar and of course Lokmanya Tilak who said
on his conviction .
" Despite the verdict of the jury , I am not guilty .There
are higher powers that rule the destinies of men and
nations and the cause which I represent may prosper
more from my jailed than from my remaing free ."
The government of Maharashtra forgets that the Ganesh
Utsav of Maharashtra is actually a political festival a
camouflage to organise against British rule and that their
leader Yeshwantrao Chavan was underground in the
nineteen forties .
They still feel that Dr.Marx 's Capital a treatise
which is an academic discourse and Lenin and
Mao are more subversive than Mahatma Gandhi,
Dr. Ambedkar ,Bhagat Singh and Khan Abdul Gaffar
Khan ??????
Revolt in any society is directly proportionate to
the nature of injustice and violence used .Here
they are busy arresting the messengers for waging
a war against the State , when the Radia tapes and
official reports of the Ministry of Rural Development
( therefore C.P.Joshi is out and someone else in tje
Rural Development Ministry to promote more land
grab ,despite the observations of the Supreme Court on
who was shielding Money Lenders in Vidarbha
as per the police records ) exposed the Salwa Judums
along with the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties .
If this is reshuffle , God help them they do not know
what they do !!!!!!!!!! That is why the urgency ,the situation
is slipping beyond control , with New Delhi living in
an escapist world when everyone in the country knows
of the shenanigans from one ministry to another at the
cost of the Indian exchequer committed by more than
one political formation in government .
Mumbai and Maharashtra are rapidly decaying politically,
socially and economically .The causes are the absence of any
political and social movement to revitalize the democratic debate.
The Maharashtra Mandals in the United States are far more important for the
leaders of the ruling party and the opposition , than the voice of its own
people
which includes its farming communities among others .
The SC/ST Commission needs to be wound up in New Delhi, it is
a useless body which only toes the politically correct line which
as of now is PARALYSIS .
You can imagine why Dr.Ambedkar while advancing a Marxist
view point , never referred to a Marx or Lenin ( Mao was not on
the horizon through published books in India ) .
If keeping books and literature are an offense ? Has fascism
arrived ??????

MORE THAN ONE COMMITTEE IN NEW DELHI AND ALL OTHER REGIONS
Dear John ,
In fact I tried to post it to you for private circulation , however
my computer responded saying , that it is an illegal alias !!!!!
I have written it for the Mathrubhumi at their request and their
are still minor typographical errors as I have written it during
treatment for a severe eye infection as they desired it urgently
As soon as it is published by them , you may use
the article in any other magazine or journal . However
you can proceed to abridge it and await my communication
as to when you are free to publish it after Mathrubhumi has
carried it .
As you know Dr. Binayak Sen and Iliana Sen are facing
terrible persecution and harassment along with many others .
I shall be grateful if you can rally around them .A few days
ago Iliana Sen was wrongly charged by the ATS/Foreigners
Branch for not obtaining permission for some delegates
from Bangladesh , Sri Lanka and Pakistam among other
countries attending a Women's Studies Conference at
Wardha , Maharashtra , though she is not concerned with
the formalities as the Conference was hosted by the Unviversity
itself which made the arrangements for hospitality and the
delegates were cleared from New Delhi .
Please support their case and kindly constitute a special
committee for the cases of victimisation in New Delhi to enable
everyone to look for the necessary support which will be
direly needed in the days ahead . The committee should
include a retired Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court,
eminent journalists , lawyers , among others .
We will need one such Committee in every State strictly
for protection of democratic rights and civil liberties as
there has been an attempt in certain regions to throttle
democratic dissent .
Just when there is a revolt in the hitherto Police States
of the Arab world , we are under siege in India , though
the Radia tapes have revealed the shenanigans of more
than one political party and their lobbyists .
We have taken our Republic and Democracy for
granted whereas we are rapidly being reduced to
a authoritarian /fascist state by political parties
in regional governments of of more than one political
complexion .
The killling of the Additional Collector Sonwane estalbishes
without doubt that the mafia appears to have penetrated
several institutions of the State and honest government
officials themselves along with honest and independent
minded political representatives will be in need of our
committees.
We need to be organized including with funding .
I am ready to concede that not all individuals in every political
party are not tainted and some may be on our side . However
the time for testing has come ...............
We need you in the days ahead, including on the issue
of Palestine .
