There is a statement from Reiner Braum Programme Director INES Association
Germany ,that energy from Nuclear Power Plants is the most expensive energy
source
and the most hazardous in respect of the fall out effect including the issue
of the disposal
of nuclear waste and that governments were subsidising the powerful global
nuclear
industry paid for from the national budgets ,that explains Mr.Jairam Ramesh's
written note that
foreign policy and strategic considerations were involved . In all
probability the reference is the
negotiation of the 1 2 3 Nuclear agreement with the Nuclear Club .

On the other hand the funding of the Shiv Sena agitation by the
some Indian Corporate houses is also required to be disclosed and
as to what action was taken in respect of the nature of this funding as this
is evidence that agitations and violent movements including for
rioting and progroms is being paid for as distinguished from genuine peoples
movements .This kind of funding led to the establishment of the Salwa Judum
in Chhattisgarh now taken over by the state in another form .

All projects in the piple line should be put on hold until there is a
transparency and a wider discussion in consultation with
scientific opinion on all issues in particular after Fukushima, is a
reasonable
request of concerned citizens as distinguished from funded organizations
with vested interest .

The International Atomic Energy Agency is neither a reliable nor
an objective body as was clear in the events preceding and following
Fukushima . The Agency has been criticized as subserving the interests
of the private Nuclear Power Industry .

Agree in principle that we need a nationwide campaign/agitation/strategy and
plan.

Just to let you all know that we will be in Delhi [ramu and I] from May 18 -
24 [But I am NOT free on the 19th]

    Dear All,

While mass faxes and statements should go ahead,

    I feel that
    a) a meeting should be called of all activists and mass organisations to
decide a nation wide agitation plan.(I could provide free of cost a venue for
200 people to meet in Delhi)
    b) every political party should be met and their stand should be
ascertained and commitment obtained (if they are with us and not with US)
    c) a broad based umbrella coalition should be formed with a minimum
accepted position rather than stick to rigid uncompromising positions.

My experience with similar situations is that it is a major political
battle where even with change of Governments the decision does not change since
compromises are made behind our backs. I have seen this in the BHEL SIEMENS
deal (Indira replacing Morarji) and the ENRON deal (13 day BJP Govt replacing
Congress). Big money takes big decisions irrespective of who is in power.

The Indian Prime Minister and his government are committed. The French
government will do all it takes, since Jaitapur is a do or die deal for AREVA.
The entire imperialist camp will support the French since failure in Jaitapur
would jeopardise others in the pipeline.

Do not underestimate the enemy and over estimate the autonomous decision
making power of the Indian Government. The Admirals with us should tell us how
war strategies are decided.

WE GOT TO SINK JAITAPUR (THE BISMARCK) INDIA (THE WORLD)DEPENDS ON US

      Dear friends,

Lalita and Ramu from the gaon where we have been without phone
connections to the outside world since yesterday. And here we dont get
newspapers either.

Fortunately Dr Gopalakrishnan rang on our mobile and gave us the
information about the shocking decision from the PMOs office after the
[in]famous meeting yesterday which was also attended by the Maharashtra CM,
regarding the decision to go ahead with Jaitapur - but making some attempts to
placate opposition by talking of safety and placing the bill on an autonomous
regulatory body before parliament.

The main demand by so many well known voices, serious thinkers and
professionals, for a complete review of India's Nuclear Policy, putting all new
plants on hold until such time that is done, seems to have been totally
disregarded - and treated with utter contempt.

And all they can come up with is an enhanced compensation package to
those being displaced in Jaitapur.

Have spoken to both Gopal, Praful and a few others - and we are all in
agreement that we need to speak with one voice in a strongly worded statement
which must go out by tomorrow.

Praful has agreed to draft something and this will be circulated asap.

Meanwhile we might consider a mass mailing/faxing of protest messages to
both CM/PM/Ramesh - or some other form of mass action - can someone do this?

Dr Gopalakrishnan has been asked by Jairam Ramesh to see him tomorrow
night - and he is also keen that we have a consolidated position and statement
which he could then reflect back to the minister.

We are going to be on the move - in Mumbai today and tomorrow - and then
down south. But will be monitoring closely our emails and proposed actions.

Sending this off urgently lest our temporary internet connection also
fails.

      Cheers
