Dear Colleagues ,
Citizens need to gather in numbers and
support Teesta, who should be accompanied
by those who are known all over the country
for their dedication and commitment including
prominent lawyers from Gujarat and neighbouring
regions including retired Judges of the High
Court /Supreme Court if possible and members
of Parliament and the State legislature .
Counter demonstration should be anticipated ,
therefore videos or hidden cameras should
record what transpires .
If necessary an anticipatory bail application
may be considered ,if her legal team anticipates
that a mala fide arrest may be made as
summoning Teesta to the Police Station does
not appear to be justified , as prima
facie the complaint is false. the individual has
participated in the process initiated legally ,
there is delay in making the complaint
A criminal complaint must be registered by
Teesta that there is a conspiracy to fabricate
evidence to frame her ,using those who had initiated
criminal proceedings in the past in connection
with the Gujarat pogrom with a view to influence
ongoing proceedings and public opinion.Teesta
must request that her complaint be investigated
further to home on to the individuals responsible
for framing her .
Let us see how the Gujarat government
treats dedicated citizens who despite all odds
attempted in a few individual cases to secure
justice . Let us also see how the government of
Gujarat treats citizens of India who incidentally are
also Gujarati in origin ?????
However it is necessary at all times to remember
that there were several collaborators in the carnage
that happened , whereas the activities of some were
overt, in the case of others it was covert . What is
most serious and a repeat even on a larger scale
than what happened earlier in Mumbai in
92/93 is that the police machinery was politically
subverted andused against citizens . That is, an institution
which thecitizens pay including the poorest of the poor
(through Indirect Taxes which contribute more to the
national exchequer than direct taxes from which we pay
the salaries of our administrative , police and armed
forces ) was used to make citizens even more
vulnerable to attack by hired criminals and mercenaries,
aimed against the unity, integrity and cohesiveness of
Indian society .
Every single affected family needs to be fully rehabilitated
and the men, women and children supported, including
for access to education and employment, with rehabilitation
measures to be monitored by an independent committee
of public spirited citizens.Atonement must be in spirit
and substance .
Let us see how the government of Gujarat treats
an individual who has worked tirelessly to secure
justice for affected citizens against all odds , who
incidentally happens to be the grand daughter of
M.C.Setalvad , India'sfirst Attorney General who merits
our respect for his professional ability and ethical positions ,
unlike many who have held various law offices subsequently .

Dear Colleagues from Gujarat,
I am forwarding a mail from Citizens for Justice and Peace regarding Teesta
Setalvad and human rights defenders from Gujarat fighting for justice for the
victims of the 2002 Carnage. Teesta has been asked to report to the Lunawada
Police Station on the 29th of this month. Support her by being present when she
reports to the PS to send out the message that she is not alone in this
struggle for justice. Please check the appended mail for more details. Also, do
kindly forward this mail to activists you know in Gujarat.
Regards,
Sabitha

July 25 2011
Dear All,
The project of the Gujarat Government to target human rights activists
fighting for justice for the victims of 2002 has reached a new stage...
http://www.sabrang.com/cc/archive/2011/june11/index.html
After persistent summons activist Teesta Setalvad has been asked to remain
present at 10 a.m. at the Lunawada Police Station on July 29, 2011. Though in
law once the chargesheet is filed only a Court may summon, TS needs to be there
to regularise her bail. Hence this mail. There is a possibility of her being
jailed.
Fellow activists and lawyers feel that there should be a substantive
presence when she does arrive at the police station to send a message to the
administration. The Commitee......also felt that it would be very important to
give the message that day to the Lunawada police (and through it to the Gujarat
police and administration as a whole) that Teesta is not alone in this struggle
for justice.
Dr Juzarbhai Bandukwala and Trupti Shah (Sahiyar) and Rohit Prajapati
(Shanti Abhiyan PUCL ) have already volunteered to be there. Could you please
also communicate this message to other friends from Gujarat who were earlier in
touch with you and who had also said they would be present whenever Teesta
reported to Lunawada police station.
Logistical Details
LUNAWADA town is about 150 kilometres from Ahmedabad and is a three hour
road journey.
From Vadodara it is about 200 kilometres and takes about the same amount of
time though some say it could take four hours.
A 56 seater bus can be hired if necessary at the rate of 6,500 (Rs 20 per
kilometre) if needed from Ahmedabad. We will be travelling from Ahmedabad...
We are in the process of finding out rates of state transport or private
transport buses.
Road Route to Lunawada from Ahmedabad is via Balashinor/Virpur
Road Route to Lunawada from Vadodara is via Sathambha/Pavagadh
Am told that the better route is via Ahmedabad to Lunawada via Balashinor/
Virpur
Committee Co Convenor Senior Advocate BA Desai had requested the phone nos
of the local police
DGP Chittaranjan Singh: 079-23256470/23254201
IG Vadodara Range JK Bhatt: 0265 2432400
DYSP Lunawada Ninama 02674-250033
(DGP is a gentlemanlike officer. Bhatt has been compromised and sides with
the administration. Ninama was brought in for the express purpose of doctoring
the charge sheet in the Mass Graves case because the previous IO in the matter
Joshi was sticking to the rule book. This background information is FYI only.
I have the mobile nos too of the DGP etc if required....)
Thanks for all the support
Teesta
