The reference below is not limited only to Gujarat and Mumbai etc but is
extended to include large scale attacks including in the Kandhamal and other
regions wherever the socially and economically oppressed have been attacked and
devastated for either land or resource seizure or for electoral gains .

Subject: The nature of the political and economic system which makes possible
the pogroms on minorities, tribal citizens , dalits , workers , the peasantry
and the unorganized
Dear Colleagues ,
Are the Mumbai and Gujarat pogroms and the Anti-Sikh riots or the attacks
on the tribal people , Dalits, workers , the peasantry and other movements in
agrarian India an aberration, or part of systematic policy financed and
conspiratorially put into effect by financing of mercenaries on the ground ,
What were the nature of forces involved ?
Why was the destruction and the killing so systematic as though it had been
planned .Did the nature of policy to be put into effect immediately dictate
that there was required to be divide and rule without which the neoliberal
economic reform agenda could not be camouflaged ?Why was the devastation
required to be so systematic from area to area so that bitter memories would
remain to foster a divide ?
These are some of the questions which we have to ask ourselves .Including
whether more than one political formation in more than one State was involved
.
Why did no one intervene to have these carnages stopped , except one MP in
Mumbai whose son was thereafter imprisoned and denied his liberty for more than
a decade .
Have political parties with no inner party democracy , been taken over by
special interests who are nominees, and hence view the religious and cultural
divide as an instrument of political and economic control to camouflage
policies .
Were Mumbai and Gujarat laboratories for experiments , and the later
strategies for bomb blasts to increase the wedge and divide ? Why were
thousands of innocent persons arrested and detained all over the country , most
on all false charges . Why were Advocates who appeared for the innocent
threatened and one assassinated .
Why have honest police officials been harassed in Gujarat and why are so many
police officials in jail as a consequence of investigation directed by the
Supreme Court .
Is the Police Force being misused for political purpose to prevent protection
to the innocent in large scale attacks which serve an economic and political
purpose .Why were anti-terrorist squads found necessary when normal good
policing would have sufficed if economic and social policies were followed in
the interest of the citizens .
Sentiments without analysis will reduce us into coffin chasers or mourners at
funerals in repeated areas of human devastation , where large scale
atrocities continue to be perpetrated on socially and economically weaker
sections and classes whether minorities , the tribal people , dalits , workers
, the peasantry or unorganized workers in urban and agrarian India . The middle
income and intellectuals are not safe either in such an environment , as we
saw in the case of Dr. Binayak Sen and Dalit intellectuals among others
falsely arrested and as is happening to crusaders under the Right to
Information Act who presumed that the Act was to empower them , even as the
mafia was free to devour them in a society where they had little or no
protection , even as democracy had become unequal as between honest citizens
on the one hand and the range of financial oligarchs and mafia , created by
the economic and financial system which favoured profits at the expense of the
human condition .
Is the Constitution being upheld or eroded ? Are the electoral choices in
many regions genuine ? How do we make the political system more democratic and
restore the Republic taken over by a financial and political oligarchy .
