IMMEDIATE
Dear Colleagues ,
Whereas the Resolution proposed by the USA in the UN Human Rights Council is
hypocritical ,as it was the ' Washington Consensus ' on financial and economic
policy adopted by Sri Lanka under the aegis of the World Bank and IMF which
made the Sri Lankan elite and ruling classes victimize the Tamil minority even
further ,plunging the island in a civil conflict lasting decades in which the
Tamil minorities of Sri Lanka were the worst sufferers; the government of India
has to raise the issue of the abuses inflicted on the Tamil minority brutally
deprived of their human and constitutional rights , with Crimes Against
Humanity and War Crimes committed against them during the brutal civil war
inflicted on Sri Lanka by financial and corporate interests in alliance with
the Sri Lankan ruling elite .
The issue is not the LTTE which was as much a problem for the Tamils of Sri
Lanka as the government of Sri Lanka , the issue is the complete deprivation of
the rights of the Tamil people .Scores of International Conventions were
violated during the brutal civil war which ended in an armed conflict . Both
the Sri Lankan forces and the LTTE at one time were trained in Israel .
The policy of using minorities as the scapegoat of the economic and political
policies of the ruling elite in South Asia has to cease . We have witnessed
this in several countries in South Asia , the divide and rule policy to better
serve the interests of FDI and comprador interests in an alliance including in
India , Pakistan and earlier Bangladesh .
The US Resolution pays lip service , however the Government of India has to
independently and separately raise the issue .There is no such thing as amnesty
for the brutal crimes which have taken place during the civil war , which
included the killings of those Sinhalese who stood for justice for the Tamils
and unity going beyond ethnic and religious differences .
What we must demand is justice for the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka
