*From:* shahiuz zaman ahmed <[email protected]> *Sent:* Thursday, July 26, 2012 11:44 PM *To:* Irfan Engineer <[email protected]> ; Irfan Engineer<[email protected]>; ram puniyani <[email protected]> *Subject:* An Appeal A communal riot in Bodo Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) of Assam between the Bodos and the Muslims has been shattering the lives of lakhs of people. Till now the riot has claimed 45 lives (officially) and injured many more people. However, it is suspected that many death bodies could not be found till now and thus the number of death toll may go even more than two hundred. In the riot, thousands of houses of hundreds of villages of Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of the BTAD areas have been burnt into ashes. The riot has spread in all the districts of BTAD areas and other contiguous districts of Assam viz. Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa Udalguri (all four districts of BTAD) and Dhuburi, Sonitpur, Barpeta etc. Till now, one lakh seventy thousand innocent victims have taken shelter in more than seventy five relief camps and many of the victims have found shelter in the houses of their relatives outside the BTAD areas. But, unfortunately, the administration has totally failed in controlling the situation. We, thus the members of All India Secular Forum, Assam immediately appeal the following demands- 1. The government should take strong measures to bring back normalcy in the Bodo Territorial Autonomous Districts and rehabilitate the displaced persons. 2. The government should supply adequate relief to the people who are in the shelter camps. 3. Adequate compensation should be given to the family members of the dead victims of the riot. 4. Adequate compensation should be given to the injured victims of the riot. 5. Adequate compensation should be given to the family members whose houses have been burnt into ashes. 6. The lives and property of the Bodo and non-Bodo people of Bodo Territorial Autonomous Districts should be protected by the Government of India/Assam. 7. The government should set up sufficient out posts at the Muslim concentrated areas of BTAD. With regards Dr. Dilip Borah Dr. S. Z.
