23rd March, 1977 was the day when the Emergency was lifted by Indira Gandhi’s government bowing to the force of people’s movement and democratic forces who vehemently opposed the imposition of Emergency on 26th June, 1975. Sh. Jayaprakash Narayan, was the key architects of the people’s movement against the dictatorial regime. Hence 23rd March every year is celebrated as JP Memorial day. -- PUCL National Office: 270-A, Ground Floor, Patpar Ganj, Mayur Vihar-I, Delhi-110091 Ph. 011-22750014 Website: www.pucl.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "humanrights movement" group.
