Hi, I just could not resist twisting the old poem "Abou Ben Adhem" that some of
you might remember....Justice Verma's death is a reminder that it is hard
struggles by those in resistance bring out the best in some! Aap
sabki,RanjanaVerma, may his tribe increase

Justice Verma (may his
tribe increase!)

Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,

And saw, within the moonlight in his room,

Making it rich, and like a revolution in bloom,

A feminist scribbling in the movement’s book of record:—

Exceeding peace had made Justice Verma bold,

And to the Presence in the room he said

"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,

And with a look of defiance and wisdom old

Answered "Names of those who stood by our hard struggles."

"And is mine one?" said Verma. "Nay, not so,"

Replied the angel. Verma spoke more low,

But cheerily still, and said "I pray thee, then,

Write me as one that stood by women for their rights."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night

It came again with a great wakening light,

And showed the names whom feminists had blessed,

And lo! Justice Verma’s name led all the rest.
