We are happy to announce that our National Convener, Shri L.S. Hardeia has
been the first receipent of Ismail Hussain (Sr) Memorial award. We
congratulate him for his explempary work and congratulate him.
This month the activists-scholars who have been deeply concerned by the
rising electoral threat of the communal fascism have come together to
form ‘People’s Allainace for Democracy and Secularism’. This nation wide
effort is to consolidate the secular forces, who want to preserve the
democratic-secular ethos from the rising tide of narrow sectarian politics.
This platform is organizing a protest demostation at Jantar Mantar on
6thDecember to protest against the Babri Dmeolition, and is also
calling for
justice to the victims of violence, amongst other issues. We are
publsishing the report of a national seminar elaborating the issues of
internally displaced persons in the BTAD in Assam. After the violence
thousands of displaced persons still have to lead the grueling life in the
refugee camps. There is an urgent need that authorities take this issue
seriously and attend to the needs of the refugees.
Anhad and many other organizations came together to organize National
Minority Women’s Convention in Delhi. This well attended convention
elaborated the issues of women form religious minrotiy community and called
for affirmative action for this neglected lot. Also the demand related to
strengthening of secular democratic values was affirmed by most of the
speakers. In another initive, a women’s delegation met the President of
India and demanded that the salking done by Saheb and his right hand man
Amit Shah be investigated and suitable action taken for blatant disregard
for the laws of the land. It is a matter of shame tha those in authority in
Gujarat are stooping low on moral and ethical scale.
