The events of last month were dominated by the Kairana incident. The BJP MP
Hukum Singh released a list of over 300 Hindu families, who according to
him, had to leave Kairana due to the pressure of Muslims. This was compared
to the exodus of Kashmiri Pundits in 1990s. When investigated it was
revealed that the list was totally false and only few families had left due
to economic reasons. When it was exposed Hukum Singh tried to change his
version but many associates of BJP continue to use this as a propaganda
tool to polarize the communities. In the past also on the eve of elections
the polarizing issues have been thrown up by BJP affiliates and they have
gained on electoral ground many a times. In Assam 2016 Assembly elections
the issue of native versus outsider (Bangla Deshi) Muslim was used with
success by this party. The capability of communal forces to keep bringing
up new issues to divide the society is phenomenal. Beef, Bharat Mata ki
Jai, terrorist violence, points from medieval history keep being brought
forward. By now; this has been studied and one of the major studies in this
field has come from prestigious Yale University. This study reiterates that
where ever communal violence is orchestrated, it is BJP which gains on the
electoral field.
We are also covering a major interview by the doyen of intellectuals in
India, Romila Thapar. In this she expresses her anguish about the state of
intolerance in the society and the dangers of communal politics. We also
carry a list of YouTube videos which cover some of the major issues of our
time. We do look forward to the national meeting being organized by Swaraj
Abhiyan in Varanasi on 26-17 July to promote Aman Committees all over the
Country.
