Bhopal encounter of 8 Muslim youth belonging to SIMI has set new norms in
crudity of extra judicial killings. Many questions have been raised about
the story put forward by police and endorsed by state. The Chief Minister
Shivraj Chouhan added salt to the injury by seeking popular approval for
this killing. In the public meeting he pronounced that dreaded terrorists
were killed. It seems that the court cases were on, and for the lack of
evidence they might have been released. The story of killing of the lone
constable also raises many questions. One of the men who are supposed to
have escaped was not able to walk properly according to his mother. How
could he jump at 35 feet high wall of a high security prison? This
incidence has further shamed our democracy. It seems MP Chief Minster is
out to communalize the people for mere electoral gains. We have witnessed
similar encounters in Gujarat when Mr. Modi was the Chief Minster there.
The video clips from the local people tell another tale, judicial inquiry
has been ordered and hope the truth comes out and the guilty of these extra
judicial killings are punished as per law. Unfortunately there is a large
section of society who justifies such killings; this reflects the intense
communalization of the society.
The situation in Kashmir remains tense and not much news is coming out in
the media. The continued repression there is a matter of worry. We are
carrying an appeal on the issue. State of Kashmir needs peace and
reconciliation. We are also carrying an interesting use of whatsapp for
spreading peace. An app with lives of 155 Muslim freedom fighters has been
developed by Syed Khalid Saifullah and, will surely spread better awareness
in society.
