Dear all, HAI is extremely thankful to all of its donors for extending support and enabling us to reach out to the people-in-need. Now the state of Kerala is facing one of the worst disasters. Red alert has been issued for the entire state. A real assessment of the extent of damage and loss can't be ascertained as most of the areas are submerged or inaccessible due to landslides. Gates of all the reservoirs have been opened to release excess water, which caused widespread inundation and also washing away of many houses, shops and public infrastructure. HAI is initiating a response immediately through its local member organisation The Cosmic Community Centre (CCC). We have issued an alert, which can be found here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B-g9o9H4mS0bYjdvaHdmd2c0LWs In the first stage of the response, we will provide food and non-food items support to as many families as possible in the districts of Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. The food kit will consist of rice, lentils, oil, salt, sugar and spices, and each kit will cost approximately Rs 1,400. The NFI kit will consist of lungi/dhoti for men, women and children's wear, blanket, sleeping mats and bed sheet. Each kit will cost approximately Rs 2,800. Once the relief phase is over, we will look into the possibility of extending support for revival of livelihoods, repairing/reconstruction of shelters and so on. We shall be immensely grateful if you could help spreading the appeal so that we could mobilise resources for upscaling a timely response. Best regards Sudhanshu S.
