Have you read this news item? -*एल एस हरदेनिया* *दिनांकः *07/10/2018 वर्ष 2002 में गुजरात में दंगे हुए थे। उस समय यह एकदम स्पष्ट था कि पुलिस स्थिति को नहीं संभाल पा रही थी (या जानबूझकर बिगड़ने दे रही थी)। इसलिए वहां सेना बुलाई गई। उस समय सेना के जो इंचार्ज थे उन्होंने अपने अनुभव एक किताब में लिखे हैं। वे लिखते हैं *‘‘* 28 फरवरी और 1 मार्च 2002 की दरम्यानी रात को मैं गुजरात के तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी से मिला था। मुलाकात के दौरान तत्कालीन रक्षा मंत्री जार्ज फर्नाडीस भी वहां मौजूद थे। मुलाकात के दौरान मैनें मुख्यमंत्री को एक सूची दी। सूची में वे आयटम शामिल थे जो मुझे स्थिति पर नियंत्रण पाने के लिए चाहिए थे। 1 मार्च को सुबह सात बजे तक 3000 सैनिक अहमदाबाद आ चुके थे। परंतु हमें पूरे एक दिन तक ज़रूरी संसाधन उपलब्ध नहीं कराए गए। इस अवधि के दौरान सैकड़ों लोगों की हत्या कर दी गई। इस दरम्यान मैंने यह महसूस किया कि पुलिस मौन रहकर सब कुछ देख रही है और हिंसक भीड़ जो आगजनी समेत अनेक अपराध कर रही थी के विरूद्ध कोई कार्यवाही नहीं कर रही है।*‘‘ * इस पुस्तक के लेखक हैं लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल जमीरउद्धीन जो उस समय आर्मी स्टाफ के डिप्टी चीफ के पद पर थे। उक्त समाचार अंग्रेजी समाचार पत्र डीबी पोस्ट के 6 अक्टूबर 2018 के अंक में प्रकाशित हुआ है: In the intervening night of February 28 and March 1 2002, when Gujarat was engulfed in flames, Lt. Shah who retired as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff has revealed in his upcoming memoir titled ”The Sarkari Muslaman” to be launched by former Vice President Hamid Ansari on October 13 and India International Centre in New Delhi. He said the police were “dumb by standards” while the “mob was setting fire on streets and houses”.
