Those of us who play French trad music are well aware of the pink and blue books -- "Massif Central" 1 and 2 by Mel Stevens. What I've paid no attention to is the green book, which has been sitting out on our piano in plain view for the last few years, untouched -- Dansons la Morvandelle. It never particularly occured to me to dig into Morvan music?(a bit east of Berry, northeast of Auvergne), in spite of the wonderful drawing on the front cover and photo of the elderly couple with pipes and gurdy on the back cover.
But something made me take another look at it the other day, and lo and behold, guess who the author is -- none other than our own Mike Gilpin! Furthermore, several of the great tunes that Mike and Chris have been teaching at OTW are straight out of that book -- Bourree de Glux, Polka a Pitou, and so on. Time for me to start digging around in there and learning the tunes... Mike, you've been hiding your light under a barrel! So, knowing the availability issues surrounding the pink and blue books, the question is, can people still buy this book?
