I am one of you now, by virtue of the fact that George and Anwyn Leverett are building me a HG.
You see, it all started a few years ago when my then 13 year old daughter, possessed by a needle and thread, talked me into accompanying her to the Pennsic Wars. Then a few days, this last summer the whole two weeks. And the wife is too now. Ladies in waiting to HRH of the East. Me, I shoot a few arrows and generally loaf about. Not really interested in the melee. But I love the music. It is everywhere, and the drones, ah the drones. But wait, I am not a spectator, I am a performer. Well, at least a few nights out of the month. A midlife crisis gone horribly wrong. On a keyboard, and singing, with drums and base and lead too. George, Paul and Ringo, and Jimmy, and Eric, David, Stills, Nash and Floyd. Professional? Well, they gave me $40 the other day. Not a bad return on the thousands invested. But I digress. Walking around the middle ages the fingers and the voice are aching. The dumbek I've been carrying around is, well, a little monotonous. So I search for keys, my fingers need keys. A harmonium is close, but not quite period. And then I found it. This year I'll be a busker, or maybe sit in with a few of the regular musicians I've befriended over the last few years. There is a lot of work to do. Research songs; I speak Dutch too....I'll bet there's a tune or two in my ancestry worthy of belching in the food court. Pardonnez the expression. Music to research, songs two learn or even write. A style to develop. And all by the end of July. Walnut it will be. And a new twist. With appearances being the latest fashion then, and now for then, I've asked George to make a camouflage cover for the modern tuners. A few dud wood pegs in a lid to cover them up. Hope that works out. As I said, a lifetime ow work in a few months. I'll be asking a lot of dumb questions here......
