Re; sound engineers.
I generaly try to get in the habit of always thanking them, even when playing
acoustic, sureal I know but it means you never forget, very easy to do when you
are on a festival bill with another act hot on your heels.
One trick I learnt a few years ago as a support act was to ask the sound
company for a business card on the pretext that I could be looking to hire them
sometime in the future. This technique ensured that as a support act you didn't
end up with an inferior sound to the headliners.

My standard practise is to thank them to the audience, get them a round of
applause and give them one of my cds.
At festivals in Australia they do a report to the organisers for each
performance and a little recognition can go a very long way, as well as
being the right thing to do.
