Hello,
I have just joined this list. My name is Jay and I am from Nova Scotia. I
see that another Jay (LVJay) has just joined you from Las Vegas; therefore...
I'll call myself NSJay so you can tell us apart.
I am a musician, and have earned part of my income from singing for many
years. A continuing interest for the last 20 years or more has been Early Music
and the instruments associated with it. In addition, I have been plugging away
at learning to read early notation styles and pre-Rennaissance English. In
particular, I am fascinated by the Hurdy-Gurdy.
To that end, I would like to acquire one. Unfortunately, I am not in an
income bracket where I can afford to buy a decent instrument off the shelf,
ready to play. I do, however, possess the skills necessary to build my own,
having trained as a cabinet-maker. Rather than find some plans and build from
scratch, I would rather purchase and build a kit. That way, I will actually get
it done, unorganized soul that I am. I can also duplicate all the parts in
top-quality instrument woods, much of which I already have, before starting
assembly. The kit then becomes a practice instrument to be improved in the
second build.
Any information or recommendations anyone can share about kits will be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

NSJay
