Bonjour Jay !

I live in Québec , near Montréal , happy to see another Canadian on this forum .

In north america , acquisition of a HG is generally a long and difficult process . One is tempted to jump on the first instrument that comes around. HD are either expensive or take a long time to make , it is important to make a good choice , take time to evaluate one' s needs .

What style of music do you play , in which context , does historical accuracy has importance for you or do you want a modern instrument ? Do you need to play in many keys or just in the baroque ones ?

As for kits , I do not know the actual market , years ago it was not interesting , one more problem in Canada is that kit parts often arrive twisted because of our climate and the distance and time of delivery .

Timing is also of importance , if you make your instrument yourself or order one , it will take time . It is frustrating to have an instrument almost finished , and discover that it will lack on some specification you did not knew about in the beginning . It is useful to go to a few folk festival , meet other players try a few instruments before spending hard earned money .

How far are you from Boston ? The NEFFA ( New England Folk Festival ) will probably be the next
HG player reunion on the east coast .

                 Good Luck

                Henry , dit Tourblanche
