To answer you and Leonard on the tension, I ran into the same issue with it 
pitched down to about C or even B, so it seems that tension isn't the issue. 
But the type of string may be. Since it was given to me by George Leverett, I 
had no reason not to try it.

I did paint the string with liquid rosin, by the way, so I know the cotton was 
in place.

I've ordered a couple fo Wonder Strings from Neil Brook, so I'll see how they 
do when I get them.
