Yes. From what I have read here, some kits are rather poor and need a lot of
reworking to achieve a decent instrument (and a lot of woodworking skills by
the builder).
As I said, I have no experience at all with kits (or anything other than basic
adjustments etc) but the bottom line appears to be that you can't just assemble
them "as is" but need to a fair bit of extra work yourself and even replacing
some parts with better ones.
Are you a fairly experienced player or is this your first venture into the
world of HGs?
I was taking it that you were not but had built a kit as per instructions and
things seem not as they should be.
If I'm in error, sorry.
There are many builders on here (including of kits - which was why I suggested
you tell us the manufacturer or the store you bought it from - I'm sure someone
here will have built one or, at least, worked on one and would know any common
failings/problems with them)

Do you mean who made the kit, the manufacture of it? I am not sure how to
make a video to put on youtube, will have to find a way to make the film, I do
not have a video camera.

May also be helpful if you said what make of kit it is as there are several
around - not all are as good as some and can need significant extra work done
on them before they will play. They can vary from pretty good to very bad
(according to mails posted here - I never tried making one, I bought mine from
a maker).

      Hey Jerry,

Try posting a video to YouTube and see if we can figure it out that way.
There are a lot of factors relating to tone and you may be battling several at
the same time.

I purchased a hurdy gurdy kit that I built. I can not get it to sound
good at all. I live hour north of Kansas City and would like to know
if anyone is close that I can get some good help and advice with about
how to make it better, thanks. Jerry
